The Waves Of Change

Chapters Five Through Six

Chapter Five

Chakotay made his way to Sickbay to see Seven the next morning. As he walked he pondered what his father had said to him.

He remembered his father telling him that his path to love and happiness laid with his one true love. He knew he still cared for Janeway and there would always be a special place in his heart for her, but he loved Seven. He enjoyed her company and she was willing to explore the possibilties of a realtionship or at least he was hoping she was.

The doors to Sickbay opened and allowed him access. He entered and was glad to see Seven was awake and sitting up on the bio-bed.

The doctor was talking to her and explaining the surgery to her and asking what she wanted.

"I'm not sure. I want to experience all the emotions and feelings I possibly can, but I am." She paused for a moment. "Afraid to do this."

The doctor noticed Chakotay standing near by and smiled. "Tell you what. I'll let you think about it while Chakotay visits with you."

"That will be fine." Seven replied.

"I'll leave you two alone." The doctor said to Chakotay and Chakotay nodded.

"So, how are we doing this morning?" Chakotay asked Seven as he kiss her.

"I'm doing better. Thank you. And you?" She said with a smile.

"I'm doing fine, now that I've seen you are fine." Chakotay replied cheerfully. "So, is there anything I can help you with?"

Seven shook her. "It's a decision I have to make on my own."

Chakotay nodded. "I have something for you." He handed her a small stone. "It's a crystal. It is said to have healing properties, such as clearity of mind and thought. You can add it to your medicine bag if you like."

"Thank you, I will." She smiled. She was still wearing the medicine bag around her neck. She reached for it and placed the stone inside it.

Seven thought about how wonderful Chakotay was and how everything was so wonderful when he was around. She felt like he made life beautiful in everything he did. He charished every moment of life. She loved being with him, because he made her feel so good and special.

"So, how soon is the good doctor going to let you out of here?"

"Depends." She replied. "If I decide I want to go through with the surgery, then it will be a few days. If I don't, then I can get out of here today."

"You know, Seven, I feel very strongly for you and personally rather you have the surgery or not, I will still love you."

"But I can not love you like you would like."

"Ah, but that's where you're wrong." He stated. "Right now, you can't love me like you would like. You see, I'm happy with whatever decision you make, but you on the other hand want to feel and show me all the love you have for me. Right now you can't and that hurts you. Yes, I would like more, but if you decide to go on as you are, I will know deep down in your heart, you have a lot of love for me."

Seven looked at him adoringly. She wanted to take him in her arms and kiss him with all the passion she had for him.

Suddenly, she felt very dizzy again. "I have to lie down."

"You want me to leave?"

"No, please stay." She said as she laid back down on the bio-bed. She wanted the physical maladies to stop. She could not take anymore dizziness or passing out when she felt extreme emotions. "I think I've made a decision."

"And what is that?"

"I'm going to go through with the surgery."

Chakotay smiled. He was glad she decided to go through with it this time, but he had to ask her one question. "You're not afraid of the risks it may entail?"

"Yes, I am, but it's a chance I have to take. I'm tired of not being able to experience life to the fullest."

"That is what makes life worth living."

She smiled up at him. Then she asked, "Would you inform the doctor of my decision? I really would like to rest right now."

Chakotay felt she was having problems currently. "Yes, I'll do that." He kissed her one last time before leaving. "I'll see you later."

Then he sought out the doctor. "Doctor, Seven seems to be having problems again. I thought you said she was doing better."

"She is, but she seems to have a heighten state of emotions when you visit her. This makes the implant activate again and then she has problems."

"I hope I'm not."

"No, you're not. " The doctor interrupted him. "Actually, you could be of some help to her in making a decision."

"She has made a decision." Chakotay informed him happily. He now had the doctor's full attention. "She told me to tell you she wants to have the surgery."

The doctor clapped his hands and rubbed them together with joy. "That's wonderful! As I told her, I can do the surgery today, so if she wants it done, then I'll do it at 1300 hours."

"I would tell her, but she said she wanted to rest for a while."

"That's fine. I'll let her know."

"Thank you, Doctor."

"Oh, don't thank me yet. We have to see how well she does after the surgery. It's very complex and given the fact that implant has been in her skull for years now, it could be fused to brain tissue. So, I have to be very careful in how I proceed."

"I understand." Chakotay replied. "I have to be on the Bridge now. Let me know when she ready to go into surgery."

"Yes, I certainly will."

Hours passed and Chakotay was getting worried about this surgery. Would she be alright? Would she be worse off because of the surgery or would she have to deal with things as they came along?

Now it was approaching 1300 hours and Chakotay anxiously awaited for the doctor to inform him that he was about to begin the surgery.

Meanwhile, Janeway was hiding out in here quarters. She knew she had lost Chakotay forever and was very sadden. She mourned the lost as though she had lost a dear friend to death.

Her chime rang. "What now? I told them I was taking some time off and didn't want to be disturbed." She groaned.

She answered the door on the second ring. "Tuvok." She said while turning and walking towards her portal in discust. "I thought I said I wanted to be alone."

"You did, but I thought as a friend I would check on you. You appear to be depressed." He stood straight and tall in his usual unemotional Vulcan way.

"So, what else is new? I always appear to be depressed."

"This is more so than usual and I thought you might like to talk about it."

She turned to face him as she addressed him. "Tuvok, with all due respect, bug off."

"Captain, I have been around humans long enough to have learned that when upset, they don't always mean what they say, even when they say they wish to be alone."

Janeway nodded. "So you're not going to leave me alone?"

"No."

"Alright. What would you like me to say?"

"Whatever, is on your mind, Captain."

"There's nothing to talk about."

"Somehow I beg to differ."

"First of all, there are certain people around here that really like to push."

"Is that how you feel?"

She turned back away from him and looked out the portal. "What would you know about feelings? You're a Vulcan who has no emotions."

"On the contrary, Captain. We do have emotions, but we have learned to control them, unlike some humans."

She turned to him in anger. "What's that suppose to mean? That I've let my feelings for Chakotay get out of control?"

"So, your feelings for Chakotay is what's troubling you?" He said calmly.

"I didn't say that." She denied while shaking her head. She paused. A single tear trailed down her face. Then sadly, she said softly, "I did say that, didn't I?"

"As a matter of fact, yes."

"Oh, Tuvok." She said walking over to him with tears flowing from her eyes. "I'm sorry. I've been taking all this out on you, haven't I?"

"It's quite alright. I don't take things personally."

Janeway wrapped her arms around him and hugged him, forgetting that to Vulcans, touch was very intimate and only reserved for loved ones. "Tuvok." She sobbed softly. "You've been a good friend to me and I've treated you like dirt."

"I do not feel as though you have." He said, as he silently reminded himself that Janeway's gesture was not intended to be a sign of rudeness. "You have been angry and hurt. I've been the one who was around for you to take things out on. A sounding board, so to speak."

She released him from the hug and nodded in agreement. "Yes, you have been."

"Captain, if I may say, the most logical course of action would be to let Chakotay go and let him live his own life."

"Easier said then done when you would rather have someone to yourself."

"That maybe, but it is a logical course of action."

Janeway nodded. "If you love someone, set them free and if they are truly yours, they will return."

"Excuse me?"

"An old Earth saying."

"In this instance, you may have to prepare yourself to set them free forever."

"You're right." She nodded. "He never really was mine. I wanted a friend, but he wanted more. I pushed him away and now, he's found what he has been seeking."

Tuvok's eyebrow rose. "Captain, if you seek only friendship, there are others who would be more than willing to fill that position."

She stared at him for a long moment. "Tuvok, are you saying?"

"I would want nothing more than to be friends. You must remember, I am very devoted to my wife back home. However, I am more than willing to be your friend."

She smiled. "Are you serious?"

"I am."

"Just friends? Nothing more?" She asked with excitement.

"Yes." He said calmly.

"Dinner? Tonight? In my quarters?"

"Captain?" His eyebrow rose again.

She shook her head and waved her hand dismissively. "It's not what you think. I would like dinner in private so that the crew doesn't get the wrong idea. Nothing more than dinner, though."

"I understand. This is rather personal, but is dinner all you and Chakotay had?"

"Most of the time. Sometimes we would go to the holodeck and enjoy a hot tub, but nothing ever came of it. Like I said, I wanted friendship and nothing more. He was not happy with that."

"Well, dinner is fine. The rest is another story."

"I understand. I wouldn't want anything to get back to your wife that was not true. If we ever get back, that is."

There was a brief pause as they both thought about their chances of ever returning home. Tuvok finally broke the silence. "So, dinner tonight at your place."

"Yes. Shall we say, 1900 hours?"

"That will be fine. I shall return then." Tuvok started to leave.

"I think I'll come with you. I'm ready to return to the Bridge."

The two left her quarters together and headed for the Bridge. Once there, the doctor informed Chakotay that Seven was about to begin surgery.

He turned toward Janeway as though to ask permission to be dismissed. She smiled. "Permission granted."

Chakotay smiled and walked off the Bridge. On the turbolift he was again praying to the Great Spirit that Seven would make it through the surgery with no problems.

He finally arrived at Sickbay. "Chakotay, Seven would like to see you before she goes into surgery." The doctor informed Chakotay as he gestured for him to go in to see her.

Chakotay went on back to where Seven was being prepped for surgery. She was lying on the surgical bed with a nurse attending to her.

"Chakotay, I hate to admit this, but I am." She paused. "Frightened."

He grabbed her hand and held it comfortingly. "It's understandable, but you will come out of this and be able to feel things you never dreamed of feeling."

"I hope you're right and I'm not asking for other things instead."

"You'll be fine. In fact, I will be praying to the spirits to see you through this safely. They will guide you and the Great Spirit will be with you also."

"Nice sentiments."

"Not sentiments. Faith that the spirits will not let anything happen to you."

"Thank you, Chakotay."

He smiled. "You're welcome."

"OK, Chakotay. My nurse has informed me that Seven is ready. I'm going to have to ask you to wait outside until this over."

"I have on question." Chakotay informed the doctor.

"Yes?"

"You have a holographic nurse?"

"Yes. If you are concerned about her capabilities, I assure you, she is program to assist me as efficiently as any real nurse. Currently, everyone who usually assists me is either indisposed or assigned else where."

Seven usually assisted him. If she could not Paris did, but today he was taking her place in Engineering.

Chakotay nodded. "I hope you're right that that holo nurse is efficient."

"You will feel a sting. Then you will start to feel drowsy and then fall asleep. When you awake, the surgery will be finished." The nurse informed Seven.

"Chakotay." Said the doctor. "I really need you to leave."

"OK. Please tell me when she has come out of surgery."

The doctor patted his shoulder. "I will. Now, please, wait outside."

Chakotay did as instructed. He sat outside of surgery and prayed for her safety on this journey.

Chapter Six

Seven came through the surgery with no complications and it was now a week later. She had just been released from Sickbay and Chakotay wanted to celebrate.

He was so happy that she had come out of the surgery with no problems and was recovering very well. Now, all he had to do was decide what he would serve her to celebrate her successful surgery and recovery. He felt the celebration dinner should be something that she liked to eat, but he had no idea what she liked and neither did she.

Finally, he decided to replicate some steaks, potatoes, and a salad. Then he thought they would top the meal off with a fine red wine. It would be synthehol and replicated from the replicator, but it would be a nice addition to their meal.

He felt he had done well with the meal and was anticipating Seven's arrival at any minute. As if on cue, his chime rang and he went to the door to greet her.

"How do you feel?"

"I am." She thought for a moment as she entered his quarters. "Doing better than what I was earlier. It is nice to be out of Sickbay."

"I'm sure it is." He smiled. "I'm glad to see you out of Sickbay and doing well."

Seven looked at him with an admiring smile. She was very glad to be with him and have dinner with him. There was no other place she wanted to be more.

"So, are you hungry?" Chakotay asked.

"Starved."

"Well, let's have dinner." He said, gesturing at the table he had set prior to her arrival.

They sat down to the table and enjoyed the meal Chakotay had prepared. Seven looked into his eyes at one point during the meal and admired them. They were so brown and beautiful.

The only thing that would make the evening even better for Seven was to feel all the emotions she had wanted to experience for months without passing out onto the floor. She wanted him so very badly. She wanted him to make her feel more emotions than she had ever experienced in her life. She wanted what every other woman, who was in love wanted. She wanted him to show her all the love in world. To make love to her.

Suddenly, her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Chakotay's voice. "A penny for your thoughts."

"Wh, wh." She shook herself back to the moment. "I'm sorry, I guess I was daydreaming. What did you say?"

"I said, "A penny for you thoughts". It's an old Earth saying. It means "What's on your mind?"

"Oh, um." She stumbled over her words and shook her head. "It's nothing. Just a nice daydream."

"Would you by chance like to share your daydream?" Chakotay asked with an inviting smile.

Seven smiled an embarassed smile and looked down towards her lap as though she wanted to hide her face. "No, not really. It's rather embarrassing."

"Well, guess some daydreams weren't meant to come true."

"Oh, no." She looked at him with a smile. "I would love for this one to come true. I just can't share it."

"Well, sounds more like a wish than a daydream." Chakotay stated. "Sometimes those do come true, even when not shared."

"I certainly hope it does." She said with a smile and took another bite of food. Once she swallowed, she continued. "You're a good cook Chakotay. Wish I could cook this well."

"Well, maybe I can teach you sometime."

She smiled. "I'd like that."

Her mind drifted back to the holodeck program she had made. The holo-Chakotay stood behind her and brought his arms around her as he was trying to teach her how to cook a nice stew.

They were chopping vegetables for the stew. She was chopping meticulously. She strived for perfection in everything she did.

"No, you need to cut." Then he placed his hand over hers and guided her hand in the chopping process. "Like so."

"That seems to be unpercise. Causing the vegetables to be unequal in size."

The holo-Chakotay smiled. "Doesn't matter. This way you chop the vegetables faster and in the end, they all come out the same."

"Seven?" The real Chakotay was drawing her back to reality. "Seven?"

"I'm sorry."

"Daydreaming again?"

"Well." She blushed.

"You know if you keep daydreaming, I won't know if you want to be here or if your mind is on other things." He said with a smile.

"Oh, I assure you my mind is on you." She stated, then with a slight bit of remorse in her voice. "Just not here in this room."

Chakotay smiled. "Actually, I'm flattered by your admittion. Daydreams are nothing to be ashamed of. Everyone daydreams."

"Well, actually, this was a memory of a holodeck you. You mentioned cooking and my mind wandered off onto what it might be like using the holoprogram I created."

"You created a holo projection of me?" Seven nodded with shame on her face. Chakotay's smile became even bigger. "Now I'm really flattered!"

"Really, it was nothing."

"I really am flattered." Chakotay wondered how long she had been infatuated with him. Had it been as long as he had been with her? "Why don't we move over to the couch with our drinks, now that we are finished eating?"

"The dishes."

"Will be fine for now." He interrupted. "We can take care of them later."

"Are you sure you don't want me to help you with them now?"

"They'll be fine." Chakotay restated as he guided her to the couch with one arm around her.

"I wanted to thank you for sticking by me during the surgery and all." Seven said as they sat down on the couch.

"No big deal."

"What about the captain? Wasn't she upset about it all?"

"Actually, she and I had a talk. She realizes she was wrong with what she said to you, but I'll leave it up to her to say something about it."

"She was really upset."

"Seven, I meant what I said when I told you I loved you, before your surgery. Nothing could take me away from you, even if you hadn't had the surgery. I would still love you no matter what."

Seven looked as though she were going to cry. "I love you, too, Chakotay."

Chakotay wanted to embrace her in his arms and kiss her. She looked so beautiful to him. Instead, he reached up and wiped the tears from her face with the back of his hand.

As he wiped one last tear, Seven reach for his hand and kissed it. Returning the love she felt from him. Then she snuggled up close to him and wrapped his arm around herself.

They sat there for a few minutes, enjoying the wonderful moment. Both of them felt they could live in this moment forever.

"Comfortable?" Chakotay finally asked.

"Umm!" Seven said with a smile. "Very much so."

"Well, you missed an interesting event in Engineering the other day."

"Really? What happened?" She asked as she continued to enjoy being cuddled up next to him.

"It seems Paris and B'Elanah had a Klingon lovers quarrel." Chakotay almost laughed.

"That is funny?" Seven asked with confusion.

"Now it is, but at the time it wasn't."

"Did she break Paris's nose?"

"No, but I think she would have if she wanted to start a mating ritual with him in Engineering."

Seven started to laugh. "Now that is funny."

"You see my point?"

"Yes." She giggled.

There was another pause in their conversation. They basked in their feelings of love for each other. Seven appreciated every moment she was having with Chakotay. Especially this moment, being snuggled up next to him. The real him and not some holo projection of him.

"Chakotay?"

"Yes?"

"I heard your people have spirit guides."

"Yes, we do." He said with a smile.

"Can anyone have a spirit guide?"

"Yes. I can help you find your's if you like."

"Not right now, but I would like that sometime." Seven said with a smile. "I do have another question, though."

"I have an answer."

Seven almost laughed. "Do you believe people have a spirit within them?"

"Yes. Don't you think so?"

"I'm begining to think so. I'm also begining to think two spirits could connect and unite."

"I believe they can. They meet and a force beyond our awareness causes the two spirits join as one in love."

Seven sat up and faced him. Then she kissed him passionately. As she kissed him she ran her hands along his body. She could feel every muscle in his back.

Chakotay was returning her affection, but then he pulled away from her a little. "Seven, are you sure you want to do this?"

"I want to feel everything I feel for you. Everything that I have not experienced before and I want to return it all back to you." Then she kissed him again passionately and pushed him back onto the couch. Probing his mouth with her tongue.

The passion between them was strong. Seven removed his shirt and lovingly appreciated his muscular chest. She caressed his chest with her hands and then she suckled one of his nipples then the other.

She was a bit awkward in her technique, but neither of them cared. They both wanted to enjoy the moment and show their love for each other.

Chakotay caressed her breasts before he assisted her in removing her shirt. Then he caressed one breast while he kissed and suckled the other. He slowly moved down her body with kisses.

Seven enjoyed every moment of his attention and revelled in her feelings for him. She felt she loved him so much and did not want this moment to end.

He continued his path down her body. Undressing her along the way. He felt her softness as he caressed her thigh and then kissed it lovingly. Then he did the same to the other thigh, making his way to her soft moist lips. He kissed her lovingly, then began to to gently caress her place of excitement with his tongue. He continued to explore her with his tongue and their feelings of pleasure heightened.

She moaned softly, savouring every moment of his love. She wanted more of him. She wanted him to take her in his arms and connect with her.

He continued to explore her with his mouth and teased her with his finger, until finally she could take no more. "Chakotay, please take me." She begged him softly as she arched her lower body.

He made his journey back up to her mouth. Kissing her at every step of his path, only pausing to tease her breasts with his tongue and mouth.

She let out a soft whimper of desire. She wanted him so badly. She wanted their spirits to connect as one. To be unite in love, as one, with him.

Their two spirits finally connected and became as one. Their love for each other became stronger as they united. The spirits within them fitted perfectly together and embraced each other.

Finally, the joining of their spirits blended as one at the peak of their passion. They glowed with love for each other, yet were completely one with each other.

Finally, when the joining of their spirits was complete, they cradled each other in their arms. Their passion was spent, but they were still as one in spirit. United forever in the love they had for each other.

Seven felt happy and fulfill, for her wish had come true. She loved him and he loved her. Neither spoke a word as they enjoyed laying in each others arms. Nothing needed to be said, for their spirits said everything that had to be said.

Soon they fell asleep in each others arms. Both were happy and content to be with the other. Both knew their love for each other would last forever.
