Dedication: For Aeris. A little late for your birthday, but I figured you’d still enjoy it. ☺
Special thanks to Gilly for the use of the pic above. Also a special thanks to Elorie for not only helping me with this story, but also for her hard work in keeping this a secret. Hugs to both of you! ☺
Special Deliveries
Rated K+
It was a quiet morning on Voyager as Captain Kathryn Janeway waddled onto the Bridge to sit in her command chair.
“The doctor told you to stay off the Bridge and rest,” Chakotay scolded.
“I can rest on the Bridge,” Kathryn insisted as she massaged her lower back. She was nine months pregnant and due to deliver anytime. “Besides, it’s terribly boring in our quarters, without you.”
“Oh, I’m glad I’m entertaining,” Chakotay laughed. “Still, you really shouldn’t be on the Bridge right now.”
“I’ll be fine,” she snapped as she readjusted her body in the chair.
“Captain,” Tuvok suddenly said, “We have three Kazon Raider ships approaching off our port bow and their weapons are fully charged.”
“Go to yellow alert, ready weapons, and open a channel!” she winced slightly.
“They’re not responding, Captain,” Ensign Harry Kim informed her.
“Are you alright?” Chakotay asked Kathryn with concern.
“Yes, one of them just kicked. That’s all.”
“I’d feel better if you’d followed doctor’s orders.”
“Captain, the Kazon are hailing us,” Ensign Kim told her.
“On screen,” she stood and as she spoke, she felt a sudden sharp pain. “Not now!” She thought, knowing she had been having contractions off and on all morning. She was hoping they were false labour pains again. Trying to stand her full height she said, “This is Captain Janeway of the Federation ship Voyager…”
“I know who you are,” the Kazon interrupted her. “And you’ve been told this is Kazon space. However, I would be willing to overlook this infraction in exchange for a trade.”
“What might that be?”
“Oh, say some of your technology in exchange for information about the Delta Quadrant.”
“I’m sure you’ve heard our policy on that, Maje…” she started to remind him then realized she did not know who she was addressing. “I’m sorry; I didn’t catch your name.”
“I didn’t say, but I’m Maje Jal Surat of the Monstral. Now I’m sure you wouldn’t want anything to endanger you unborn child,” he pointed to her well-extended belly with his head. “Our weapons are fully loaded and aimed at your ship. I’d hate to be the one who brings about your child’s death.”
“We don’t respond to threats!” She growled as she felt another sharp pain in her back. It took all her strength not to give into the pain she felt.
“Then you leave us no choice!” The Kazon flashed off Voyager’s view screen and then the ship shook with their first round of attack.
Chakotay looked at Kathryn as the ship shook. He knew she was under a lot of stress and not just from the onslaught of the Kazon’s weapons.
“Shields are holding,” Harry informed them.
“Tuvok, fire torpedoes!” She yelled as she held her back and cringed with discomfort.
“Firing torpedoes!”
“Kathryn, you need to get off the Bridge,” Chakotay insisted, reaching for her as she fell back into her chair.
“I’m fine!” She gasped with discomfort as the Kazon continued to pound them with their weapons. “Tom, evasive maneuvers! Lambda sequence.”
Tom punched the buttons on his console, “Beginning evasive maneuvers!”
“FIRE AT…” she started to shout as she suddenly leaned forward and clutched her stomach. The distress she felt in her lower back suddenly radiated to the front. “Oh! They can’t come now!”
“Tuvok to Sickbay.”
“I’m fine, Tuvok!” Janeway gasped as she waved for him to cancel his call.
“Sickbay here,” the doctor’s voice came over the com system with another shudder from the ship.
“I believe the captain is in labour.”
“That’s no surprise given the sudden attack and her being due anytime,” he replied with irritation. “What is she doing on the Bridge when I took her off duty?” Finally he sighed, “Bring her to Sickbay.”
“Tuvok, another torpedo would help right about now!” Tom insisted urgently as the Kazon weapons tossed the ship.
“I’m afraid that won’t be possible,” Tuvok informed the doctor as Kathryn let out another scream and the ship shook again. Then Tuvok said, “Firing photon torpedoes.”
“So, I hear. Patch me into her Ready Room,” the doctor sighed again. “I’ll send Kes to assist her.”
“Paris to B’Elanna!”
“B’Elanna here!”
“We need all the power we can get to the engines and weapons systems.”
“Damage to the secondary command systems,” Harry informed them.
“I’m working on it!” B’Elanna hurriedly told them.
Just as Kathryn screamed from another contraction the con sparked and Harry jumped back quickly.
“I’m getting you off the Bridge!” Chakotay insisted as the ship shook again and he tried to keep her from falling.
“I can’t LEAVE THE…” She tried to insist again as braced herself on the arm of her chair.
"Oh yes you can!” He persisted as he guided her to her Ready Room. “Tuvok, you have the Bridge.”
“Continuing evasive maneuvers,” Tom stated. “Beta sequence.”
“Now’s not the TIME…” Kathryn shouted with pain as they entered her Ready Room. “They can’t come now! Not in the middle of a battle.”
“I’m afraid they can, Kathryn,” Chakotay insisted as the ship rattled from another hit from the Kazon. Then he guided her to the couch in her Ready Room.
“Chakotay, I can’t do this right now,” Kathryn panicked as the ship shuttered. “I have to be on the Bridge.”
“I don’t think our children are giving you a choice,” Chakotay stated as he helped her prepare for their children’s birth.
“People, I’m here!” The doctor’s annoyed voice came from Kathryn’s computer on her desk.
“Oh good!” Chakotay exclaimed. “I’m going to need your help to deliver these two.”
“This is what she gets for not following doctor’s orders,” he complained. “If she had just stayed off the Bridge…”
“Doctor,” Kathryn growled as the ship continued to shake and she felt another labour pang. “Just help me deliver my babies before I jump through that screen and strangle you.”
“Alright, how far apart are the contractions?”
“My guess is about five minutes apart,” Chakotay informed him.
“Five minutes! Why didn’t you come to Sickbay instead of going to the Bridge?”
“I thought it was false labour again!” She roared as the ship took another pounding. “I really should be on the Bridge!”
“You’re not going any where now,” Chakotay told her as he gentle placed his hands on her shoulders to get her to stay on the couch.

Meanwhile, on the Bridge Tom was frantically trying to pilot the ship away from the Kazons as fast as he could.
“B’Elanna, I could use a little more power up here!”
“I can’t give you anymore! The drive coil assembly is destroyed!”
“Shields are down to fifty percent,” Harry announced. “Haul breech on deck four, cargo bay five.”
“Activate emergency containment field,” Tom barked.
“Structural integrity is down to seventy percent,” Harry shouted.
“Then give us more power to our shields!” Tom barked.
“Secondary commands are offline,” the computer reminded them.
“I wonder how the captain is doing?” Harry suddenly asked.
“She won’t be doing well if we don’t get out of this mess,” Tom smarted.

“How is she?” Kes asked as she entered the captain’s Ready Room with fresh towels and blankets.
“She’s determined to be on the Bridge,” Chakotay informed her.
“What else is new?” Kes chuckled and then asked Kathryn, “Do you want anything for the pain?”
“No, I just want to get back to the Bridge.”
“Check her vitals, Kes,” the doctor scowled with disapproval of the captain’s comment. “And see how far she has dilated.”
“Yes, Doctor,” Kes answered.
“I have to push!” Kathryn gasped for breath.
“Not until I say you can, Captain,” the doctor insisted. Then he turned to the sound of the Sickbay doors opening and closing, “I have casualties coming in, Kes. Can you handle the captain?”
“I think so,” she replied. “I doubt she will try to go any where right now.”
“DOCTOR!” Kathryn shouted with urgency. “I can’t deliver them without you!”
“I’m sure you’re in capable hands with Kes, Captain,” the doctor assured. Then he addressed someone off screen, “Just lay him there, and I’ll be with you in a minute.”
“DOCTOR!” Kathryn wailed.
“Captain,” Kes tried to get her attention. “Listen to me. You’re going to have to push now.”
“I need a report,” Kathryn panted heavily from the discomfort she was feeling. “I have to know what is happening to…”
“There’s plenty of time for that later,” Chakotay interrupted. “Now push!”

“Aw!” Ensign Kim suddenly screamed as the OP’s station shot more sparks and caused him to fly out of his chair.
“Harry?” Tom inquired as he piloted the ship.
There was no reply.
“Continuing evasive maneuvers, delta sequence,” Tom informed everyone as he focused on flying the ship as fast as he could. When he saw Tuvok made a direct hit on one of the Kazon ships causing the ship to explode, he yelled, “Woo hoo! Good firing, Tuvok!”
“Just pilot the ship, Paris. There will be plenty of time to celebrate later.”
“Yes, Sir!”
“Haul breech on decks five and six,” Tuvok announced with controlled calm.
“Seal them off!” Paris yelled as he dodged the last Kazon ship.
“Emergency containment field activated,” Tuvok stated. “Firing photon torpedoes.”

“Push, Kathryn!” Chakotay encouraged.
“First rule of business,” Kathryn growled as she pushed, “Is to inform these children who the captain is!”
“You may have to do that more than once,” Chakotay smiled a dimpled smile.
“ME!” She forced suddenly as another contraction rolled through her body.
“OK, we may have to,” Chakotay surrendered.

“Reactant injector controls are hit!” B’Elanna yelled over the comm system as the ship rattled.
“Initiating dispersal pattern Sierra,” Tuvok announced.
“Full starboard roll,” Tom announced. “We’re going to shake these guys if it’s the last thing I do!”
“Hull integrity down to forty percent,” Tuvok informed the crew.
The first cries of Chakotay and Kathryn’s first child were heard on the Bridge.
“Powerful lungs,” Tom commented as he keyed in another sequence into his control panel. “Evasive maneuvers, gamma sequence.”

“This is your fault, Chakotay,” Kathryn smiled weakly as Kes cleaned and wrapped their first child in a blanket.
“Mine!” Chakotay exclaimed with shock. “If I remember there were two of us on New Earth.”
“Yes, well, it’s still your fault,” Kathryn jibed weakly. “Now if the Kazons would just back down and I could get a full report.”
“Oh, you’re not going any where for a while,” Kes stated with a smile as she handed Chakotay their baby. “You have one baby girl and you still have another one coming.”
“I know!” Kathryn exclaimed as she felt the next round of labour pains.
“What are you going to name her?” Kes inquired as she checked on the new mother.
Isabella Aquene,” Chakotay informed Kes as Kathryn replied with another cry of distress. “Her middle name means ‘Peace’.

“OH CRAP! The Borg!” Tom suddenly shouted. “Just what we need now!”
“Yes, however, they are not firing on us,” Tuvok observed with curiosity. “They are attacking the Kazon.”
“I’m taking this opportunity to get us out of here,” Tom announced to the crew. “The Kazon’s may be sitting ducks now, Harry!” When there was no response, Tom quickly turned to see Harry lying on the deck and rushed to his side. “Harry? Tuvok, we have to get him to Sickbay.”
“I’ll call Ayala and have him take Harry to Sickbay. We also need to start getting repairs underway.”
“Tom, I wouldn’t go to warp right now,” B’Elanna insisted over the comm.
“Don’t tell me,” Tom frowned.
“Starboard warp coil took a direct hit from that last volley of Kazon fire,” B’Elanna announced.
“I asked you not to tell me,” Tom sighed.

“Push Kathryn!”
“Not again,” Kathryn heaved as the ship shook.
“Well, at least the ship’s stopped shaking,” Kes commented. “Let’s hope it is a good sign.”

“Begin repairs,” Tuvok ordered. “Meanwhile, I believe impulse engines are in order, Mister Paris.”
“Yes, Sir, I’m on it.”
Suddenly everyone on the Bridge grabbed a console as the ship quaked once again.
“One of the Kazon ships has just been destroyed,” Tuvok announced as soon as he could check the sensors. “Heavy debris.”
“Oh great! Hopefully we’re not sitting ducks for the Borg.”

“This is that last child we are having,” Kathryn heaved as she started to push again.
“OK, if that’s what you want,” Chakotay replied.
“You can stop pushing,” Kes told her.
“What you don’t want anymore?” She queried tiredly.
“Not if you don’t,” he replied as he kissed her forehead.
“NO!” She suddenly yelled as another contraction hit.
“OK, last time, Captain. Go ahead and push,” Kes informed her.

“We are the Borg,” the crew heard over the comm. “Resistance is futile.”
“Yeah, yeah! We know the routine and we still have the same answer for you,” Tom grumbled.
Again they heard the cries of a newborn baby.
“Not today,” the Borg Queen snide, “Let’s just say… What is the Earth saying? Oh yes! You owe us one. I’ll return again to retrieve my protégés.”
The screen flashed off as the Borg ended their transmission.
“What does that mean?” Tom asked curiously.
“I am not certain,” Tuvok replied, “But I assume it may have to do with the captain and commander’s children.”
“Great! Just what we need!” Tom stated sarcastically.
Kes stepped out of the captain’s Ready Room and happily announced, “The mother and babies are resting comfortably.”
“What are they? How much do they weigh? You know the usual questions?” Tom inquired excitedly.
“A girl 2.35 kilos and a boy 2.44 kilos” she announced joyfully. “Their names are Isabella Aquene, meaning peace, and Achak meaning spirit."
