'She makes a holo-program of Chakotay, which he thought was amusing and now he has dinner with her. How could he?' Kathryn thought as she sat on the couch in the dark staring out the window in her quarters. She was dressed in her nightclothes alone with her thoughts. 'What can I expect, quoting protocol and boundaries to him, it's like saying I'm not interested, but I am. I've been lying to myself.'
Kathryn sighed as she continued to watch the stars quickly fly past the ship. She could not sleep, so she sat on her couch remembering the discovery of Seven of Nine's holo-program of Chakotay.
"I do not understand," Seven stated in the captain's Ready Room hours earlier. "He was not the real Chakotay, but rather a facsimile."
"Seven, you cannot make a romantic holo-scenario of any crewmember, especially the first officer," Janeway insisted.
"I think it is you who doesn't want anyone to use the likeness of the first officer rather than any rule. I do believe you are jealous, Captain," Seven insisted.
"Seven, my feelings in this matter are not the subject and if you do not change you attitude, I will throw you in the Brig!"
"I don't think you will," Seven dared. "You need me to get you home."
"Not with this behaviour I don't," Janeway insist and then turned to Chakotay. "Commander, take her to the Brig."
"Captain, maybe a different approach would be better," Chakotay suggested. "Let me try something."
"Be my guest, can't make the situation any worse than it is now," she said as she threw her hands in the air.
"Have dinner with me."
"WHAT!" Janeway growled furiously.
"Trust me, Captain, a friendlier setting maybe better in this case."
"Excuse me, Commander..." Janeway tried to rein her emotions with little success.
"I accept."
"That's it! Seven dismissed! I need a moment with my first officer alone and then he'll take you to the Brig," she stated as she glared at Chakotay.
"I still believe you are jealous," Seven insisted as she turned to leave.
"DISMISSED!" Janeway seethed angrily.
After Seven left Captain Janeway took a few deep breaths before addressing her first officer. "What the hell do you think you're doing? I told you to take her to the Brig."
"You also allowed me to try a different approach and I am."
"I think you are letting your flattery and her looks go to your head and it's affecting your judgement as my first officer," Janeway said angrily.
Hardly, this situation needs a different approach. Sometimes it's more prudent to handle different people in different ways. I think talking to her in a friendly environment that is a little more neutral could help her listen better, especially with someone she seems to trust."
"Like I said, I think you are letting another blonde with a shapely body get to you again."
"You know, I think Seven is right. You are..."
"GET OUT!" Janeway roared.
"Kathryn, trust me, you have to trust me on this one."
"Get out of my Ready Room!"
At the time Kathryn did not believe she was jealous, just angry that her first officer had disobeyed her order and until now she had not even thought about it. She wanted to kill Seven for that accusation, but it was not becoming of a captain to harm a crew member out of a jealous rage, much less a civilian. That idea caused Kathryn to realize she was jealous, but why? She had no real claim to Chakotay, yet she knew she cared for him deeply.
'He's having dinner with her, in his quarters,' she thought. 'Does Chakotay really believe it would work with someone who is just a child emotionally? The whole crew seems to know that he's having dinner with her too. He didn't even ask me, but instead just asked her to dinner right in front of me. The only thing he said was 'Trust me.' I wasn't sure then and I'm not sure now what he meant by that statement, but I trust him implicitly or at least I thought I did. Now I'm not so sure. I'm not even sure why I even care, but I do.'
Kathryn glanced at the chronometer, '2348 hours. Wonder if they were still at his place or had their evening ended or worse yet if he caved to her childish whims. I really need to get some sleep instead of worrying about this, but I don't feel tired.'

"Seven, I'm flattered by your holo-program," Chakotay began after they had been talking over dinner for a while. He did not want to bring it up right away; preferring to wait until they were both relaxed over dinner, even with that, what he wanted to say to her still felt awkward. "But..."
"You agree with the captain?"
"No, that's not..." he paused, took a quick sip of his drink, and decided to rephrase his thoughts. "Yes, in a way I do. It's nice to know someone is attracted you, but the thing is, there are rules to such things and there is a social protocol."
"I was using it for social practice," Seven informed him as she sat her fork down on the table. "The doctor suggested I try one of the holo-programs to practice my social skills. I just thought someone more familiar to me would be better. Someone I know."
"I think I understand. It's what you have become accustom to, but..."
"You still see me as Borg." Seven sounded almost insulted, yet still firm.
"That's not what I meant either," Chakotay sat his glass down on the table again and picked up his fork, "but you still see yourself as Borg, at least in part. The closest you can come to something like being on the Borg ship is someone you are familiar with, but it is not appropriate for holo-programs."
"I do not understand," she said firmly as she stared him down with an expression that demanded he explain.
"Seven, sometimes it's better to go to the person you are interested in seeing socially," Chakotay nervously took a bite of his food.
"Like you asked me?"
Chakotay shifted uneasily in his chair, nodded, as he set his fork down on his plate and picked up his drink, "Except I had a different reason for wanting to talk to you alone."
"You would like to copulate?"
Suddenly, what Chakotay had been drinking sprayed out of his mouth and he stared at her wide-eyed, "What? No! I mean..." He took a deep breath and tried to gather his thoughts quickly as he cleaned his drink off the table almost wishing he had something stronger to drink, "What I mean is, that's not why I wanted to talk to you alone."
"The doctor's Human Social Behaviour lesson thirty-five states that when man asks a woman out, he is clearly interested in her."
"Well, yes," he sighed as he gave up on cleaning up the mess he had made and picked his fork up again. Chakotay pondered his next words for a moment. He felt like he was explaining relationships to a pubescent thirteen year old. "But I asked you here to explain something that you might not want others to be privy to hearing."
"You want to explain human sexual behaviour to me?"
"No!" Chakotay almost choked on the bite of food he had placed in his mouth just before Seven asked the last question and suddenly he realized this was not going well at all. Again, he took a deep breath, "Not that I would object if you had questions about men, but what I'm trying to tell you is, while I appreciate the holo-scenarios of you and me, I also feel you were embarrassed to tell me how you felt, possibly even feared rejection, so you decided to recreate me in several different holo-scenarios. As flattering as that is, it's better to go to that person."
"You would consider going out with me?"
"That's not exactly what I meant."
"Commander, state your intentions."

As fast as the Alpha shift began the next day, Janeway went straight to her Ready Room and did not come out again until the shift ended. This was something she did everytime she wanted to be alone with her thoughts and Chakotay knew that.
He also knew that she was probably upset about something he did because she was avoiding him in other places of the ship too. In this case he could only assume she was upset about him having dinner with Seven and if she did not come out of her Ready Room before Alpha shift was finished, he was going in even if it meant going into the bear's den.
Similarly, Seven was avoiding him too, which did not surprise him after their discussion over dinner. It was not what she was hoping for and Chakotay knew that, but how else could he talk to her about something that other people probably should not hear? At best he knew she would accept it and go on with life on Voyager. At worst, she would have a fit and that was not something he wanted the whole crew of Voyager to see nor did he want them to know why she was upset.
Yet he could not help thinking that everyone on the ship knew what had happened because the crew were giving him angry looks. Did Seven tell them or did Kathryn say something to someone, like B'Elanna.
'It's a small ship, maybe no one had to say a word to anyone, and everyone is just assuming what might have happened,' he finally thought. 'Who knows, but I'll be damned if Kathryn thinks something happened that didn't.'

Kathryn was in her Ready Room still fuming about Chakotay having dinner with Seven. She could not understand why he did it, except that she knew he felt flattered by the program and may have decided to have a relationship with her after all.
'We made promises to each other. Promises that meant a lot to me and he should have known that, so why has he decided not to wait for me until we return to Earth?' Kathryn thought as she sat at her desk staring out the portal. 'Maybe he's changed his mind. How could anyone wait for someone who feels getting a crew back home again is more important than having a relationship with someone? I really shouldn't blame him if that is how he feels.'
Kathryn fought hard to keep the tears back, but a single tear escaped and ran down her cheek. Quickly she wiped it way tried even hard to keep from crying.
'This is so unbecoming of a captain,' she thought angrily, not knowing whom she was angrier with at the moment- herself, Seven, or her first officer. 'He's my first officer. I can't have a relationship with him. It's just not possible. Protocols and all. I have to stick to those boundaries.'
She shook her head as she turned away from the window, picked up a PADD, and tried to concentrate on what it said.
Suddenly, she slammed the PADD down on her desk, 'Oh who am I fooling! There are no protocols as long as both people agree to the relationship Starfleet wouldn't say or do anything about it. I made the decision for us when I said not now, so I only have myself to blame.'
Again she turned to stare out the portal of her Ready Room and was once more lost in her own thoughts. She did not notice the time passing when the chime to her Ready Room rang and caused her to jump back into reality.
Quickly she wiped the tears that had escaped off her face before allowing the person on the other side of the door to enter. She did not want anyone to know that she had been crying, but as fast as she saw the person on the other side of the door; she knew her cover was blown and could not hide anything him.
"Chakotay, this is a surprise."
"I have those reports you wanted." Chakotay tried to hand them to her, but she turn and walked back to her desk as though ignoring them.
"How many times have you used that excuse to find out why I spend so much time in my Ready Room? Maybe too much."
"You have? I haven't noticed." Chakotay walked over to her desk and stood there waiting for her to say something more.
"Chakotay," she growled as she crossed her arms and sat back in her chair staring angrily at him. "Don't try that with me."
"You know me to well," he replied with a slight grin as he placed his hands on her desk and leaned closer to her. "I am using the reports as an excuse, but I'm concerned about you, Kathryn."
"You've used that line before too."
"And each time I've meant it. I don't mean to pry, but..."
"Then don't!" She roared as she suddenly sat up straight in her chair. "Just leave the reports here and I'll look them over when I'm ready."
"I think we need to talk."
"What is there to talk about? You've obviously made your intentions clear."
"What are you talking about?" Chakotay suddenly stood up straight. He was confused and wished she would just come out and tell him what was on her mind.
"You know what! I'm talking about you and Seven."
"What about Seven?"
"You want to see Seven. That's fine with me. I won't stop you."
"Kathryn, what the hell are you talking about?"
"You know damn well what I'm talking about!" Kathryn stood and walked around the desk to where he stood. Looking him straight in the eye she said, "Dinner last night with Seven?"
'Now we're getting some where,' Chakotay thought. "Kathryn, I thought I told you I was going to talk to her."
"Over dinner? Doesn't sound like just a talk to me." She began to pace as though carefully considering her next words.
"I really think you are jealous over nothing. I was..."
"Forgetting that you are my first officer," she said very possessively.
"What?" It was not what she said that confused him, but how she said it.
"Never mind," she quickly turned to go back to her chair. "Forget I said anything. It's none of my business."
"I was handling ship's business my way and nothing more!"
"Having dinner with someone who obviously has an attraction to you is ship's business?"
"It's better than out in public where everyone can hear what I had to say to her."
"Oh what sort of disciplinary action could be so bad to handle in my Ready Room or maybe your office?"
"One that could cause hurt feelings and possibly a scene."
"Don't give me that! How could one month's restriction from the holodeck cause a scene or even hurt feelings?"
"Kathryn, if you would just listen!" Chakotay shouted as he hit her desk with his hand, and then turned away quickly as he placed his hands on his side and took a deep breath.
"I don't think there is anything to listen to," she replied. "You've admitted you were flattered by her actions and then asked her to dinner. What is there to explain?"
Chakotay turned back around, leaned over her desk, and pointed at her, "You are jealous. So jealous, that you're afraid to hear the truth. You just want to assume something that isn't true."
"I'm hardly jealous," she insisted as though she were just threatened. "What you do on your own time is your business, but don't try to call it ship's business! Having dinner with someone is NOT ship's business. If you are disciplining someone, you do it in here next time. Dismissed!"
Chakotay stared at her angrily for a moment as he considered over riding her authority and not allowing her to dismiss him so easily. He wanted her to know why he had dinner alone with Seven, but decided now was not the time. Deciding that she was too jealous to hear his real reasons, preferring to discuss the proper way to discipline instead, he indignantly turned and walked out of her Ready Room.

The next day, Seven was walking down the corridor when suddenly someone grabbed her as though she were prey being hunted and slammed her roughly against a bulkhead.
"How dare you!" B'Elanna growled like an animal in Seven's face.
"I do not know what you are talking about."
B'Elanna jerked her forward and slammed her against the wall again as though she were a lion that had her kill in its mouth, "You know damn well what I'm talking about, and don't try anything or you'll learn the meaning of 'See Borg drone? See angry Klingon break Borg nose!'"
"Remove your hands from my person," Seven heatedly insisted.
"Not until you tell me why you had dinner with Chakotay when you know full well he belongs to the captain."
"I was not aware humans belonged to anyone," Seven replied indignantly while feeling as though a wild dog was attacking her and the need to either run or defend herself.
"The crew and I say he does," B'Elanna appeared to be foaming with Klingon wrath as she spoke. "And if you don't keep your mitts off of him, I'll break your nose and anything else I have a mind to."
"Threats are not necessary," her prey replied defensively. "The commander explained to me that his heart belongs to someone else, but he did not specify."
"Well I'm telling you now since you are so dense, that the captain has feelings for the commander and the commander loves the captain. Now get that through your Borg head or is that irrelevant to you?"
"It is quite clear. Now will you please take your hands off of me and allow me to continue on my journey." Seven tried to think of a plan of action in case her attacker refused to release her.
B'Elanna roughly released her like a mad dog finished with its victim as she contemptuously stated, "As far as I'm concerned, you can spend the day in Sickbay. I don't want to see you in my engine room." Then she heatedly started to walk toward Engineering, but suddenly paused and turned to face Seven once more, "Oh, and one more thing, if you say one word about this to anyone, I'll kill you!"

A few days later, after hearing several of the crewmembers making comments about how the captain started 'hiding out' from everyone and B'Elanna's assault against her, Seven decided she needed to say something. She had the uneasy feeling that everyone was blaming her for the captain's seclusion. No one thought to ask how their dinner was or even show any curiosity about it. They would only frown disapprovingly and would not talk to her unless they had to say something.
The captain did not ask to speak to her nor did she address Seven directly. B'Elanna received Seven's orders and she would reluctantly relay them to her. Other than that, no one saw the captain for days.
Seven concluded that she had to speak with the captain directly, but Captain Janeway denied her request each time she asked.
"I'm sorry to inform you, Captain Janeway is still occupied," Tuvok stated when he spied her beside the Ready Room door as he exited.
"I insist on speaking with the captain now," she said after this last denial.
"I will be happy to deliver any message you have to her," he offered.
"No, it is..." she paused for thought, "of a personal nature."
"May I be of assistance?"
"No, I do not believe so."
"Very well," Tuvok replied still standing in front of the Ready Room doors. "Is there someone else you would like to discuss your personal matter with?"
"No, I do not believe that would be sufficient."
"As you wish, but may I remind you that you should not let whatever is troubling you affect your duties."
"Understood," Seven told him. "Still, I think it would be prudent if I could speak with the captain about this matter and soon."
"The captain has informed me that she can not speak with you at this time."
"Elaborate," Seven said firmly. "What does 'at this time' mean?"
"She can not speak with you for reasons I am not informed of and may never be informed."
"Did you inform her of the urgency of the matter?"
"I can not inform her of what I do not know," Tuvok replied. "If I do not know why you believe it is urgent then I can not tell her such."
"I can not tell you, but it is imperative that I speak with her," Seven's voice rose slightly.
"Tuvok," Captain Janeway interrupted with a quick swallow of her coffee as she stepped out of her Ready Room for the first time in days. "I'll speak with her. God knows she has asked several times in the last two days to speak with me. It's obvious, that whatever it is, it's important to her and she's not going to let this go."
"As you wish, Captain," Tuvok answered stepping out of Seven's way and allowed her admittance to the Captain's Ready Room.
"And next time, Tuvok," the captain began, "Don't guard my Ready Room door so closely."
"Understood," he replied as he walked away to return to his station.
Seven entered the captain's Ready Room and stood near the door.
The captain took another sip of her coffee and then spoke as she gestured to a chair, "Mmm, come in, sit down."
"I prefer to stand."
"OK, but you could at least step a little closer," Janeway stated as she sat down in her chair. "I'm not unapproachable."
"No disrespect, but I disagree."
"Seven, what is this all about?"
"Ever since Chakotay and I had dinner together, you have been hiding in your Ready Room, not seeing anyone."
That's not so unusual for me. I spend a lot of time in here."
"On the contrary, Captain. I have noticed when something is troubling you, you spend and excessive amount of time in your Ready Room. Other times, you are with the crew, giving them guidance and orders personally."
"Seven, get to the point," Janeway insisted. "But mind you, you did not ask permission to speak freely; I'm giving it to you for now."
"You are jealous of the social intercourse Chakotay and I had several days ago."
"Well, that is to the point," she was shocked by Seven's elaborate use of words. Under other circumstances, Seven's choice of words would not have been so startling to her. "However, I think you are misinterpreting social cues again. I'm hardly jealous of Chakotay having dinner with anyone."
"Then why have you secluded yourself for several days now?"
The captain's reply did not come instantly, but she finally said, "You are mistaken; now return to your post."
"Captain, I have not finished."
"Yes, you have. Dismissed!"
"Nothing happened."
"Seven, I said dismissed," Janeway ordered sternly and felt as though she were dealing with pestilent young woman who she wanted out of her Ready Room immediately.
"You are significant to him, while I am inconsequential."
"Seven don't make me..." she growled and then suddenly paused. "What did you say?"
"I am of no significance to Chakotay."
"No before that."
"You are significant."
"No, you said I was significant to him," Janeway corrected holding a finger up beside her head and shaking it. "How did you come to this conclusion, Seven?"
"Chakotay had a purpose when he asked me to dinner."
"For disciplinary actions, supposedly, but I..."
"Besides one month of no holodeck usage, he informed me that, and I quote, 'his heart belongs to another' and we were not compatible. We would make an insufficient couple."
"He said that?"
"Not exact words, except for 'his heart belongs to another'," Seven informed her.
"And how did you come to the conclusion that I was the one he was talking about?"
"The crew is not oblivious to how you two connect and if I were to get in between that, it is obvious I would be scrutinized closely for my actions," Seven informed her. "I have done nothing and I do not wish to be accused of preventing something the crew wants to see happen."
"The crew?" The captain questioned with great interest. "Scrutinize? Accuse? Now this is new."
"As of late, it seems as though I have been observed closely."
"I see."
"And you and Chakotay do not speak to each other."
"What makes you so sure?"
"It is obvious to the crew."
"Is it now?" Janeway asked with a smile as she grabbed one of the PADDs sitting on her desk and raised it slightly. "Well, you can assure them that everything between their captain and commander is fine. I'm just catching up on some reading in here."
"Are you certain?" Seven wondered, looking almost like a confused teenager.
Janeway nodded as she took a sip of her coffee, "Um humm... Everything is fine."
"If you are sure, Captain," Seven said as she slowly turned to leave still befuddled by the conversation that just occurred.
"Yes I am, now dismissed."
"Yes, Captain."

That evening Kathryn stopped at Chakotay's door. She hesitated for a moment before ringing the chime.
'Maybe this isn't such a good idea,' she thought. 'Maybe I should just forget this and move one, but if I don't we might never speak to each other again. That would not be good for ship's moral to say the least.'
Her hand shook a slightly as she reached to ring the chime. Nothing.
'Maybe I should ring it again just in case.'
She pushed the button again and after a few moments of waiting for him to answer she decided to leave.
Suddenly the door open as she turned to walk away, "Kathryn, this is a surprise."
"Chakotay, I almost thought you weren't in your quarters."
"Actually, I was..." he paused for a moment. "Indisposed."
"I see," Kathryn replied. 'She's in there, that's why he didn't answer very fast.'
"Well, you're here, so why don't you come in and stay a while."
'Maybe she's not after all,' she thought and then smiled. "I'd like that." She entered his quarters and stood just far enough away from the door for it to close behind her. Trying hard not to look directly at him, she scanned the room as she continued, "So, how are you doing?"
"I'm fine. Kathryn..."
"No, no," she raised her hand. "I just came by to tell you Seven came by my Ready Room. Tuvok was guarding my door as though he were a German Shepard."
"Sounds like him," Chakotay almost laughed.
"I couldn't help but hear their conversation and it was either let her in so she could talk to me or have the crew wonder what was going with their captain."
"That bad?"
"Almost, but she told me some very interesting things."
"Like what?"
"What happened when she had dinner with you," she said finally looking directly at him.
"Kathryn, if she told you..."
"No quite the contrary. Basically she said you gave her one month of no holodeck privileges and turned her down for another date."
"It wasn't really a date," Chakotay shuffled uneasily as he stood facing her.
"OK."
"You didn't come here to argue with me again, did you?" Chakotay asked. "Because I really..."
"No, I came here to apologize." She stepped closer to him and her countenance softened. "You asked me to trust you and I didn't. I'm so sorry."
"No, it was my fault. I didn't tell you why I wanted you to trust me and I should have."
She reached up and gently touched his cheek, "Chakotay."
He reached up and held her hand. His touch was warm and gentle. "Kathryn, would you like to have dinner with me tonight? I mean since you're here and all."
"No, I..." She slowly pulled her hand out of his grasp and slid it over his shoulder and around his neck as she pulled him to her, kissing him softly. Pausing only for a moment to whisper, "I want more than dinner with you."
"Kathryn, maybe we should..."
"Go to your bed."
"Are you alright?" He did not push her away, but instead wrapped his hands securely around her waist.
"I will be soon," she told him and then kissed him again.
Chakotay did not resist her. He just returned her kiss while she slowly worked her hands under his uniform jacket and then his shirt. The feel of his warm skin caused her desire for him to increase as she kissed him harder, probing his moist mouth with her tongue.
Slowly she slid her hands out from under his shirt and brought them around in front of him as she withdrew her lips from his. "I have a better idea," she stated seductively as she undid his uniform jacket. "Why don't you sit down on the couch?"
"And do what?"
"You don't have to do a thing if you don't want to."
"Sounds interesting."
Kathryn led him to the couch and gently made him sit down. Then she straddled him and continued her ministrations.
"I think I'm going to enjoy this, but Kathryn, are you sure this is what you want?"
"It's not what I want. It's who I want and that's you," she told him as she removed his jacket and kissed him again.
Chakotay gently pulled back from her, "I want this more than anything, but I have to be sure it's what you really want."
"Chakotay shut up and kiss me! That's an order," she leaned over to nibble on his neck breaking through his resistance.
There was no further protest as he smiled at her and tried hard to refrain from laughing, "You know, this could be taking advantage of your first officer." Then took his hand and gently guided her to his lips to kiss her mouth.
After a few seconds Kathryn softly said as she brushed her lips across his cheek and down to his neck, "Yes, but I don't hear any complaints."
"No complaints here," Chakotay tilted his head back allowing her access to his neck as he enjoyed her attention.
Kathryn could feel his excitement growing beneath her as she nibbled and teased his neck. Finally, she withdrew from him long enough to remove his shirt, and then she leaned over and suckled one of his tiny nipples causing it to stand erect. Smiling at the obvious pleasure she was giving him, she slid her moist hot tongue across his bare muscular chest and teased the other nipple.
"This is hardly fair," Chakotay groaned.
She suddenly sat up, "How so?"
"This," he replied as helped her out her shirt and then pulled her closed. Her breasts landed exactly where he wanted them as he began to return her attention by suckling one of her ample mounds.
"Oh Chakotay!" She groaned arching her back and releasing her own pent up desires grow.
He flicked his tongue against her harden bud. After circling it a few times he slid across to the other breast, enveloping the nipple, teasing her unmercifully.
Kathryn wanted him inside her so badly, but she did not want him to stop either. She slowly moved her lower body over his harden member, but their clothing was an encumbrance for both of them.
Feeling the need to feel more of her, Chakotay reached down and opened her pants and then his. His hard erection was freer, but still somewhat hindered by his underpants.
However it was not enough. "Don't go anywhere," Kathryn insisted, as she pulled away from him long enough to remove the rest of her clothes as Chakotay wiggled out of his.
"Where am I going to go?" He said playfully.
"No where," she stated as she sat back on top of him and then kissed him and she slowly gyrated her heated sheath against his erection.
"Mmm..." he groaned from the sensation of her womanhood caressing him. "You could kill a man like this."
Kathryn chuckled, "Yes, but you'd die loving it."
Her breasts heaved as she laughed and Chakotay could not resist capturing one of them with his mouth again.
"Oh!" she cried with pleasure as the warm moist heat between her legs increased.
As he continued to caress her breasts with his hot mouth, he reached down and started massaging her clitoris with one of his fingers. Briefly, he reached up to one of her wet breasts to moisten his finger. As he did, he gently brushed her swollen nipple; sending a pulsating sensation through Kathryn.
"Ah, Chakotay!" she moan as her groin moved against him and her thighs squeezed around him.
He smiled and returned to caressing the swollen bud between her legs.
Wanting more Kathryn adjusted her body slightly so that she could guide his fully aroused shaft into her heated core. Slowly, with a little assistance from Chakotay, she moved until she had completely enveloped him.
Wrapping his arms around her, he pulled her close to him and kissed her as she began to ride him gently. It was still not enough for her, so she readjusted her legs to wrap tightly around his lower back, which pushed him deeper into her.
As she rocked against him, Chakotay continued to tease one of her breasts until he could take no more and began moving with her. Placing his hands on her pelvis he guided her motions as they thrust hard against each other.
Reaching behind her she placed her hands on his thighs. As they grinded against each other even harder she arched her back and gasped for breath. Her uncontrolled contractions pulsated over his throbbing penis.
"OH YES! KATHRYN YES!" Chakotay screamed as he exploded inside her.
After one last uncontrollable shudder she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him as she felt him spasm one last time inside her. "I do love you, Chakotay," she smiled as she spoke.
"Because I just made love to you?" He grinned mischievously sliding his arms around her.
"No," she replied as she playfully smacked him on his shoulder. "I love you."
"I love you too," he said as he tightened his arms around her waist and pulled her close to him; kissing her lovingly.
They held each other until Kathryn finally spoke again, "You know, I think I worked up an appetite."
"Oh, Kathryn, I don't think I can do this again right now."
She laughed as she crawled off him, "No, I meant for food. Is that offer for dinner still on?"
"Yes," he replied, "If I can get up that is. I think you took my energy from me."
"Is that why I feel so alive right now?" She grinned playfully at him.
They ate dinner and instead of going back to her quarters, Kathryn stayed the night with him and they made love again in his bed.

Five weeks later, the EMH ordered Kathryn to Sickbay for a physical.
"Doctor, I really need to that booster!" Kathryn insisted.
"I can't give you one."
"And why not?" She looked at him angrily.
"Well, if you had come in a little more than a month ago, I would have been able to give it to you then," he insisted. "But there is no way I can give you one now."
"That doesn't answer my question, Doctor. I really need to have one."
"Well you're too late, Captain," he said as he sat his tricorder down on the tray beside the exam table.
"What are you trying to say?"
"You're five weeks pregnant, Captain."
"What?" Kathryn was shocked. "I can't be!"
"Well, if you came in here earlier I'd say you're right, but you didn't and apparently you had relations with Commander Chakotay in the interim."
"I know who I had sex with, Doctor! You don't need to tell me who the father is."
"I'd say the same to him if he were here. He obviously did not come in to see me either before you two..."
"That's enough!" Captain Janeway scolded as she jumped down from the exam table and stood her full height in front of the doctor. "Why didn't you remind us of needing to come in here and see you?"
"I did, but you two were too busy dealing with away missions and the crew," he reminded her. "Seems I take a back seat when it comes to your health needs."
"Doctor, I don't have a health problem. I have..."
"A baby on the way. Yes, I know. I recommend that you inform the commander as soon as possible, but who am I to tell you anything. Nobody listens to me. I'm just the EMH."
"Doctor!"
"Oh yes! Congratulations are in order, aren't they?"
Janeway shook her head, waved her hands in exasperation, and started to leave.
"Tell the Commander I said, 'Congratulations!'"
"Shut up, Doctor," Janeway snapped as she exited the doors.
"Shut up, Doctor?" He questioned with amazement. "That's a new one for the captain. Usually Lieutenant Torres tells me that."
The doctor shrugged and returned to his work.

Janeway went straight to her Ready Room, ignoring Chakotay as he addressed her.
Paris turned from his counsel with a puzzled look, "Commander?"
"I'm not sure, Mister Paris," Chakotay replied. "But I'm going to find out. Tuvok, you have the Bridge."
"Aye, Sir."
"Trouble in Paradise?" Tom asked after he saw the commander enter the captain's Ready Room.
"Mister Paris, just concentrate on your job. I'm sure if it's anything important, we will know shortly," Tuvok said as he took the command chair.
"Yes, Sir!"

"Kathryn?" Chakotay began to ask as he saw her sitting at her desk in deep thought with her chin resting sullenly on her hands.
"It's nothing, Commander," she snapped. "Return to the Bridge."
"Are we back to formalities again?"
"Commander..." She growled.
"What are you angry about?"
"I'm not..."
"Well if you're not angry then what is all of this about?"
She stood and turned to face the window. "Remember a few weeks ago after we had that disagreement about Seven?"
"Seven? This is about Seven? I thought..."
"We did," she growled. Then she corrected herself in a softer tone, "We do."
"I don't understand."
Kathryn sighed and then took a deep breath. "I don't know how to say this."
Chakotay shook his head in confusion, "Just say it."
"I'm pregnant," she finally told him as she continued to gaze out the portal.
"Pregnant?" Mixed emotions ebbed over Chakotay. He did not know what to say to her.
She suddenly turned from the window, "Yes, that is what I said isn't it? Chakotay, don't make me say it again."
"Kathryn..." He started to reach for her, but she walked away from him.
"If it weren't for Seven's holo-program, you having dinner with her, and then her telling me how you felt this wouldn't have happened!"
"And it may have anyway. Kathryn, you can't blame Seven for this."
"The hell I can't! I was just fine until we discovered her holo-program containing MY first officer!"
"Have you ever listened to yourself, Kathryn? 'My first officer. My commander. My Chakotay. That's what you say. It's always my this and my that when you describe me! I'm telling you, this may have happened anyway."
"No," she shook her head and raised a finger in the air to correct him. "We would have continued on as we were if it weren't for Seven."
"So, you're blaming Seven for your pregnancy?"
"Yes!" She stopped and thought briefly. "No. I don't know. I can't think right now. Must be the hormones running through my body."
"Kathryn, I must admit I'm shocked, but I'm also very happy that you're carrying my baby," he said softly. "Regardless of what happens in the next few months, I'm still here for you."
She gave him an incredulous look, "Because I'm pregnant with your child?"
"No, you know me better than that! Damn it, Kathryn!" He shouted. "I told you a few years ago on New Earth how I felt about you."
She stared at him in disbelief.
"Yes, I made up that 'Angry Warrior' story. There is no such story! As I told you then, 'It made it easier to say', but I do love you. I love you, Kathryn. I loved you the moment I set eyes on you. I didn't go anywhere then and I'm not going anywhere now! Don't you get it? Wild horses couldn't drive me away from you. Not on New Earth, not in the Delta Quadrant, not even if we were back home again."
She continued to stare at him, but her look softened as a single tear rolled down her cheek. "Oh Chakotay," she whispered so softly that he could barely hear her. "I'm so sorry. I... I..." Suddenly she threw her arms around him and laid her head on his shoulder. "Hold me."
It was one of the few times he saw her vulnerable, but without question he wrapped his arms around her.
"What are we going to do?" She asked softly.
"Well go on as usual and when you're ready, we'll tell the crew," he told her, wishing to hear her say those three little words to him again.
"No," she lifted her head off his shoulder and looked at him in the eyes. "I mean what are we going to do? I love you too, but how can we continue as we are with a child on the way?"
She finally said the words he wanted to hear once more. He smiled and asked, "Marry me?"
Kathryn pulled away from him, "No."
It was his turn to look at her with disbelief.
"I mean, I don't want to marry you because we're having a child, Chakotay."
"If that’s what you think..."
"You never thought about asking me until now. Have you?"
"Kathryn..."
"Answer me!"
"I wanted to ask you these last few weeks, but I wasn't sure if you wanted..."
"What I wanted! Did you ever think to ask me what I wanted instead of waiting for me to tell you what I wanted?"
"Actually..."
"You didn't ask me if it was alright to deal with Seven over dinner. You didn't ask me..."
"Kathryn, I didn't know I had to ask you permission to ask anyone out to dinner before now! You said we couldn't have a relationship while we were out here..."
"No, no," she again held a finger in the air. "We both agreed it was not a good idea."
"Damn it, Kathryn! Don't push me away! Not this time!"
"I'm stating..."
"You need me and I need you! I'm tired of this game you play and it needs to stop now!"
"What game?" She questioned defensively.
"This come here, back off game you play with me! I'm sick of it and it's time it stopped!"
"I don't..."
"Yes you do! Now I'm not going anywhere until you make up your mind, but regardless of your decision about us, I'll still be here for the baby and you. However, if you decide you want to end what is between us, don't get upset if I ask someone to dinner even if it's Seven!"
As he started to leave Kathryn pleaded, "Chakotay, don't go."
Pausing, he hesitated before turning around to look at her again.
"You're right, I am possessive of you," she confessed.
Chakotay stood there without saying a word.
"I'll admit I was jealous too. I didn't want to lose you to a Borg drone that I helped discover her humanity again," she finally said. "And yes, I don't see you as just my first officer. I see you as far more than that. You mean more to me than just another officer serving under me. You are my angry warrior and when you told me that story, I knew what you were saying. I just couldn't bring myself to tell you how I felt about you."
"Go on," he couched when she paused.
Kathryn shook her head and turned away from him, "And now the doctor tells me I'm pregnant."
"I know it's all so sudden."
"It's not just that, but we're light years from home in Borg space," she said as she spun around to face him again. There was complete terror in her eyes as she cried, "I don't know if I can do this, Chakotay."
"We'll do this like we've done everything else. Together."
"I need you, Chakotay, now more than ever."
"I'm right here, Kathryn."
She studied the floor for a moment as though the next words were too difficult for her to say. "You still want to marry a stubborn woman?"
Chakotay placed his hands on her shoulders and caressed them, "Only if she's you."
They stood in silence for a few moments.
Finally Chakotay asked, "Does that mean you'll marry me?"
"What choice do I have?"
"You're not saying that because you're pregnant are you?" He said jovially.
"No," she chuckled as she wiggled away from him and looked out the window again. "I don't think I could live a day without you in my life."
"Is that a yes?"
"Yes, Chakotay," she replied as she turned around to hugged him with a smile. "I'll marry you."
"So, when do we tell the crew?" He finally asked with joy.
"About the baby or that we're getting married?"
"Both!"
"I don't know, but when we do, I'm sure they will all be happy for us," she smiled.
